RWCBM Mobile

The members' network, on the phone

The members are contractors and business owners, not people sitting at desks. This puts the whole network in a pocket: the directory, the request board, and messages, with a notification when somebody answers. They sign up once on the web and are already logged in here.

The problem

The web app worked, but the members using it are contractors and business owners who are rarely at a desk. A directory you check between job sites has to be an app.

What got built

Expo with file-based routing through Expo Router, sharing the web app's Clerk instance so credentials carry over with no second sign-up. Tokens cache in the device Keychain and Keystore via expo-secure-store. Sentry is wired for crash reporting and expo-updates handles over-the-air releases without a store round trip.

Details worth naming

  • Five tabs (feed, groups, messages, notifications, and search) against the existing web API.
  • Shared Clerk authentication: a member who signs up on the web logs straight in on mobile.
  • Deep links open a specific chapter or direct-message thread from anywhere in the app.
  • Secure token storage in the native Keychain and Keystore, with over-the-air updates via expo-updates.

Inside the product
